Students from first year class 1C, participated in a mock election over the past three weeks in communications class. Three nominees for President and three nominees for Vice President were selected through class vote. These nominees then took to the podium every week with carefully prepared speeches (with the assistance of other pupils) in an effort to win the title.
Students also negotiated changes in the classroom with their teachers in order to prove their abilities as leaders. Other roles throughout the election included speech writers, council, speech directors (who focused on the delivery of speeches), the marketing team (these pupils created posters and helped whip up catchphrases for the candidates) and our News reporter, who provided updates throughout the election as well as interviewed the losing candidates.
The final vote saw Sam Gray elected as Class President along side Dara Coyne as Vice President. However, it was a tough deliberation for the students as all nominees and their teams proved extremely talented! There might a future President among us at Clifden Community School!
