The u17s now progress to the Connacht Shield final on Tuesday 26th April v St. Joseph's Foxford in Solar 21 Park, Castlebar after their victory today.
The team started off well with some early opportunities through solid link up play and kept good possession at times.
It was a flowing match with both teams creating opportunities, Charlestown struck first after winning a free kick on the edge of our 18yrd area and catching us off guard.
Clifden then regrouped maintaining their focus creating a number of chances that were sent wide or saved by the Charlestown goal keeper.
Our determination paid off midway into the 2nd half with Ben executing a skillfully positioned lob over the keeper.
Soon after we were awarded a penalty that was hit with precision by Jack. With approx 17 minutes to go the team worked well both in defence and attack and encouraged each other to the final whistle. It was the strong spirit of the team and their commitment to each other that drove them on. Well done to the entire squad especially team captain Micheal and our goal keeper Justus playing his first game in goals. ⚽
