One more week...

Hello to all,

I hope this finds you well rested and looking forward to either joining the school for the first time, or making a return. Here you will find some recent updates and I hope, useful information in advance of our return, as we head into the last week of the summer holidays.

As we prepare for our return to school, we remember our cherished teacher Mr O Connell. There will be a School Mass for Mr O Connell which will be attended by his family on Thursday afternoon September 8th.

New First Years

Our new First Year Students will join us on Friday August 26th - school buses will be running. We are busy getting lockers ready. All students will need to bring their own padlock for their lockers. 2 of our first year classes have already got their books from the school - a text will issue to remaining classes when their books are ready. Many thanks to Veronica for all her work with the books.

It would be great if the new first years came in wearing a badge (home made!) with their name on it please. This would be really helpful to themselves and their teachers who want to ensure that we get

to know each other as quickly as possible. If it's not possible to have a badge, we will have some here.

Finally, all new first years will need a copy and a pen with them on their first day!!

Deputy Principal

I am pleased to welcome Mr Francis Collins who has today been appointed Deputy Principal of

Clifden CS. Mr Collins hails from Co Tipperary and has previously worked in Scoil Mhuire Community

School Clane, and the UK. Mr Collins succeeds Mr Jimmy O Toole who will be staying on with us in a teaching capacity. We wish both Mr O Toole and Mr Collins well, and we thank Mr O Toole for his contributions and commitment as Deputy Principal in Clifden Community School. We are delighted that he has chosen to stay on as a teacher in the school and we look forward to his continuation with us.

Tea or Coffee.....

Clifden Community School is proud to participate in the DEIS programme (Delivering Equality of Opportunity In Schools). As part of this programme we focus on developing our Partnership with Parents/Guardians.

With this in mind, we invite you to an informal Tea/Coffee Morning on Friday 26th August from

0845-0930 in room 9 (Home Economics Room). This is an opportunity for you to meet and chat with other Parents/Guardians of 1st year students.

We look forward to welcoming you on Friday morning.

Exhibit A

There are jackets here that may belong to you. If you wish to collect (or seek out) your missing jacket, any jackets here will be available for collection on Monday and Tuesday next. After that they will be moved to a charitable organisation.

With thanks for your ongoing cooperation and support, and looking forward to the start of the new school year,

Mary Kelly
