Improvisation, or Improv, is a form of comedic theatre in which the plot, characters and dialogue are all made up in the moment.
The workshop, facilitated by Brian Gallagher, introduced Improv to the students, and showed them how using Improv can make conversations creative, fun and exciting...amongst other skills.
Through this workshop, the students learned : - to create, and to trust their own creativity. - to truly listen, both verbally and to the underlying emotion. - how to communicate back - to work with others. - what makes things funny - how to heighten the funny - how Improv can be applied to everyday life, social situations - turn group tensions into creative opportunities
Feedback from Clifden Community School TY students:
"It was really great! I really enjoyed going into break out rooms and it was very interactive and fun."
"Overall I thought this workshop was quite funny and entertaining! We learnt about how to make some one liner jokes and as a group we all wrote a pretty funny story together that was the most random thing! But it worked!! Although I was unsure about doing the workshop at first, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to not only someone who has an interest in comedy, but someone who likes to make people laugh and laugh themselves!"
"Very funny and entertaining and tested improv skills. 10/10. Would do again."
"We were visited by the magical comedy fairy named Brian Gallagher. He taught us about stand up comedy. We learned how to write one-liner jokes and how to make stories from our lives comical. Very interesting and informative!"
"Very enjoyable, learned a lot, wish it was longer."
"I found this Comedy Workshop quite fun, interesting and easy going. Brian had it in a way where it was different to what we would usually do in a workshop. We had fun with making a movie task which made me laugh, and there was no pressure at all, it was very chilled, would love to go do this again and would definitely recommend this to any TY group or year group in general."
"I really enjoyed the workshop. I wasn't sure how good it was going to be just because it was online instead of in person but I had a really good time. I loved the game at the beginning when we made up the movie, that was good fun."
