Re: Transition Year Information 2022-23
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to let you know some important information in relation to dates and costs associated with the Transition Year Programme. The curriculum includes a core of familiar subject areas and provides for new areas of experience through the incorporation of a range of additional learning modules as outlined in recent presentations. A calendar (subject to change) is included. Below is the draft outline of likely costs during TY. In order to continue to offer a range of activities in TY, there are some charges that we have to place against these activities. The cost of additional planned activities (for all students), which are listed below, is €160. This €160 does not include the cost of Petersburg, TY Trips or other activities not on the planned calendar that the students may organise during the course of the year.
We expect all students to participate in the planned programme as this creates the maximum opportunities for learning. Please contact the TY co-ordinator or Principal in advance, if there are any circumstances that prevent your child from participating in these programmes. While we try to plan and budget for all activities in TY from the beginning of the year, occasionally we get invitations to participate in some very worthwhile activities based on how projects/student interests develop during the year.
Lastly, the Work Experience dates are:
(1) Mon 24th – Fri 28th October
(2) Mon 7th – Fri 10th February
(3) Mon 29th May – Fri 2nd June
To avail of the benefits of the Work Experience module it is important that students begin to plan their preferred options as soon as possible.
Looking forward to a productive and enjoyable Transition Year.
Yours sincerely,
Mary Kelly Mary Keating
Principal TY co-ordinator
