Clifden Community School etched their name into the history books today, claiming their first ever Connacht PPS football title with a thrilling 6-10 to 5-9 victory over Archbishop McHale’s.
Clifden came flying out of the blocks, registering 1-1 within the opening minutes to settle early nerves and take control of the game. Their momentum continued throughout the first half, and they entered the break with a commanding seven-point lead.
However, Archbishop McHale’s came roaring back in the second half, making full use of the strong wind to reduce the deficit and bring the contest back to a one-score game. With the pressure mounting, Clifden showed incredible composure and resilience, finishing strongly with 1-1 unanswered to seal a famous win.
This historic achievement is a testament to the dedication and commitment at all levels of football in the area.
