Students from Clifden CS took part for the first time in the Connaught Schools Chess Competition last Tuesday 7th March in Galway. Over 14 schools, 300 students from all corners of Connaught took part in the event♟
Students had a very successful and enjoyable day coming 7th in the Team section. Team members included; Noah Leamy, Rían McKenna, Kieran Ryan, Stanislav Trunov, Sami Vuotikka Foyle and Lúcás O Halloran. Stanislav won a medal for the highest team score🥇
Competing in the novice section were Alan Kelly and Danyil Uvarov and they too did very well.
This event is not just about competing, there is also a social side. Clifden CS students met and played against other boys and girls from different schools who all had an interest in chess. Students also learned new chess moves to bring into their games.
