French Pen-Pals

French Pen-Pals

Second Year students have, again, been busy letter writing to their French pen-pals in Collège Jean Vilar, near Lens in France. Monsieur Didier Riez, their principal has long links with Clifden Community School having been involved with exchanges with his former school in Lens in the 90’s and early ‘00’s.

On Monday the 30th of September we had a visit from our pen-pals from College Jean Vilar in France. This is the 9th year of the partnership which is going from strength to strength. Monday was a busy, fun filled day for our students as they hosted the visitors. All 48 students linked up with their pen-pal and chatted together before enjoying heading to the gym where the visitors were taught some skills in Gaelic football and hurling. Unfortunately the weather meant that we couldn’t have a game outside but the rain didn’t dampen our spirits.
Following a quick lunch the afternoon was spent in the gym where our students put on quick workshop of Irish dance. The afternoon ended with a singsong and some photos and all too soon the visitors had to leave for the next leg of their trip.
The French visitors were also delighted to meet up again with Ríona and Rory, two of our 5th year students who spent 10 days in school in France during TY.
Thanks to everybody who contributed to the success of the visit.
Un grand merci à tout le monde qui a participé à cette visite très réussie!
