On Friday the 26th of January a group of Clifden Community School students visited GMIT Letterfrack for one of their annual open days. The group of pupils consisted of 5th year Construction Studies and Design and Communication Graphics students. These pupils are currently considering their CAO and career options in preparation for their final year and sitting their Leaving Certificate in the summer of 2019.
On the day students received a guided tour of the campus including technology demonstrations and a careers seminar.
The Machine Hall and Technology Laboratory tour included:
- CNC Demonstrations
- Laser Cutting Machine Demo (We now have one in the school)
- 3D Printing Demo (We also now have a 3D printer)
- Log Conversion Demonstration
- Pneumatics and Stress Testing
The Careers Seminar included:
- Lectures
- Career options
- Work placement opportunities
CAO Options and student experience:
- Meet with Lecturers, Technicians, Staff and Students

- Accommodation and Students Union advice
The response from the Clifden Community School Students was very positive, some of the feedback and comments from students included:

GMIT Letterfrack were very welcoming to us and Clifden Community School students had an extremely positive experience on the day.
