Carna/Ros Muc v Clifden CS

Date: 20th October 2017
Clifden CS made a blistering start to the game out scoring their opponents 2-4 to just 2 points inside the first 15 minutes. Excellent attacking play by Breffni Barry, Alannah Carty and meadhbh Heanue saw Clifden race into the lead. Roisin Gavin scored a hat trick of goals to put an end to the carna/ros muc fight. Lara acton, leora Morahan and Sarah Heffernan all played brilliantly in defence. Rebecca Nee (captain) put the icing on the cake with a goal, leaving the final score a massive Clifden CS 9-7 carna/ros muc 4-6
Player of the match: Roisin Gavin
Clifden CS v St Paul’s Oughterard
Date: 9th November 2017
Clifden CS had two early goal chances from Lydia Mullen and Clara O’Malley with one coming back of the crossbar and the St. Paul’s keeper made a fine save for the second. These goals were desperately needed as the next three scoring chances were taken by Oughterard as they raced into a 2-3 to 0-1 lead. Clifden had left themselves a mountain to climb trailing by 9 points at half time. Robyn Flaherty was winning every ball that came her way and she dragged her teammates back into the game with her heart and determination. They gave everything in the second half with some well worked scores from RoisinGavin and Leah O’Malley. The backs were much improved in the second half where una Coyne and Lucy Lydon kept the St. Paul’s attack quiet. They came back to within one goal of Oughterard with the help of substitutes Amelia née and Annie Sweeney, but unfortunately the clock was against us and St. Paul’s ran out winners on a final score of 3-6 to 1-6.
Player of the match: Robyn Flaherty.
Cheathru Rua v Clifden CS
Date: 13th November 2017
This was a must win game for the Clifden girls and it was unfortunate that a few experienced players were unavailable to play. Clifden CS lined out with a very young team made up of mostly first years. The opening half they played into a gale force wind and weather conditions were not ideal. Some fantastic defensive displays meant we were only trailing at half time by 5 points. Edwina Mannion pulled off two fantastic saves in goal, Amy king made a huge impact making blocks and tackles while Molly boote was the best player on the pitch showing great athleticism out around the middle of the field. Ciara Brennan scored 1-2 while being marked very closely. Alannah Carty scored a wonderful goal late on but it wasn’t enough as Clifden again ran out of time for the comeback. Final score cheathru rua 5-5 Clifden 2-5.
