Re: Transition Year Information 2023-24
Dear Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to let you know important information in relation to planning, dates and costs, associated with the Transition Year Programme. The curriculum includes core subject areas and provides for new areas of experience through additional learning modules as outlined in recent presentations. This year we are pleased to offer students the opportunity to learn Ukrainian – students have been surveyed and a small number have expressed interest. It will probably mean that these students will do 2 hours of computer classes, instead of 3 (to be confirmed). A calendar (subject to change) and a draft outline of likely costs during TY are included. The cost of additional planned activities (for all students), which are listed below, is €160. This €160 excludes the cost of Petersburg, TY Trips, and other activities not on the planned calendar that students may organise during the year.
We expect all students to participate in the planned programme as this creates the maximum opportunities for learning. Please contact the TY co-ordinator or Principal in advance, if there are any circumstances that prevent your child from participating in these programmes. While we aim to budget for all activities in TY from the start, occasionally we get invitations to participate in very worthwhile activities based on how projects/student interests develop during the year.
Lastly, the Work Experience dates are:
(1) Mon 23rd– Fri 27th October
(2) Tue 6th – Fri 9th February
(3) Mon 27th – Fri 31st May
To avail of the benefits of the Work Experience module it is important that students begin to plan their preferred options as soon as possible.
Looking forward to a productive and enjoyable Transition Year.
Yours sincerely,
Mary Kelly Mary Keating
Principal TY co-ordinator
