Transition Year MiniMed Programme

01-March-21
Transition Year MiniMed Programme

The RCSI Transition Year MiniMed programme took place virtually this year. It offered transition year students the opportunity to experience what it is like to train and work as a doctor. All sections of the programme are carried out by leading professionals in their respective areas with a wide variety of topics – including general practice, heart surgery, pathology, paediatrics, forensic medicine, transplants, obstetrics and gynaecology being covered during the programme.

Quotes from CCS Students.

“It was honestly amazing. I really enjoyed the live surgeries/videos of procedures, the talks were really good, I particularly enjoyed the sessions on microbiology and forensic pathology.”

“I thought that the course was good, it had a lot of information about the different careers that can be done throughout medicine. Every day there were different speakers and they each touched on a different aspect related to medicine, for example on Monday there was a Heart Surgeon, Tuesday we saw a baby being born. Wednesday, there was a gall bladder removal and tumours were looked at. On Thursday we learned about different types on pharmacists and Friday was about physiotherapy and sports injuries.”

“My favourite part of the week was definitely the first three days which were medicine based. It gave me a great insight into what it takes to become a fully qualified doctor and the amount of opportunities that come about in the process! I would 100% recommend this course to anyone who even has the slightest interest in the 3 fields of medicine, pharmacy and physiotherapy. Even if you don’t know if you’d like them, I’d recommend doing this course as I personally learned so much. This course has definitely helped me in deciding what I might do when I’m older and it has taught me that if you want anything bad enough, you can get it! Overall loved the entire course and I’m so glad I did it.”
