Congratulations once again to the Clifden CS U14 schools rugby team.
The team, made up of first and second year boys enjoyed their second victory in six days for the school team as they secured a 26 - 5 victory over Gort CS.
It was the first time the boys had made a final for the school, with the reward a chance to play on the Sportsground, the pitch of their idols and local heroes Connacht.
The first half was a tight affair with a considerable amount of effort by both sides returning a 0 - 0 half time score. Clifden CS started brightly in the second half by running in two converted tries to take it out to 14 - 0. Gort CS responded quickly with a well worked try of their own taking it to 14 - 5. But Clifden were not to be beaten on the day, two more tries and one conversion took it to 26 - 5 and although there were more chances there were no more scores.
The Clifden try scorers were, Ronan Mannion, Damien Manning, Sean Conneely and Sebastian Smith, with the conversions scored by Finlay Yule.
Congratulations to all involved and special thanks to Jason Walsh, Cathal Joyce, Pat O'Neill and Fearghal O'Rourke in both the school and club setting, which has led to today's success.
Mr. R Molloy.
Under 14 Rugby Coach.
