TY School Breast Cancer Awareness Programme

TY School Breast Cancer Awareness Programme

Breast Cancer Ireland’s mandate, in addition to providing funding to support pioneering research, is to provide education & awareness on the importance of breast health amongst women of all ages with a particular focus on younger women.

Breast Cancer Ireland believe that TY is an ideal time to educate young women about their breast health. The TY Schools Awareness Programme proudly supported by Cornmarket Financial Services is tailored to promote good breast health, taking the fear out of a breast cancer diagnosis and educating young women about how to perform a self- breast examination.

Rachel, from Breast Cancer Awareness visited CCS on Monday 9th March and spoke to all TY students. Her talk debunked many misconceptions about Breast Cancer, as she shared her own story with students and answers all questions openly. She went through the presentation she had prepared. The presentation included a lot of useful information. She read out the instruction on how to get the breast cancer app and how it works. The female students had some extra time on their own as a group with RACHEL Where they got to ask more questions examine the mannequin which was helpful as it help to get a sense of feeling of what exactly you are looking for and what is normal around the area.

According to one student who attended the session: “I found the talk very beneficial because I now know how to check for breast cancer symptoms. I discovered a new app which I intend to use regularly. I know the warning signs, what to look out for, how and how often to do the breast examination.”
